Our Town: Bar Harbor

Bar Harbor was settled in 1763 and was once, appropriately called, Eden. We’ve been Bar Harbor since 1918 when the town fathers associated the village with Bar Island, a popular spot to explore when the daily low tides expose the sand bar connecting one island to another.

Today we are a year round community of 5,000 people nestled along Frenchman Bay and bordered by Acadia National Park. Manor House Inn sits just moments from the Village Green where you can enjoy summer band concerts and the Town Pier, a departure point for activities ranging from harbor boat tours, whale watching and guided ocean kayak tours and where you will see local fishermen unloading the daily catch of lobster. Restaurants, shopping, museums, and galleries will welcome you.
